Nelson & Flor Venegas
Project Name: Olivo Silvestre
Project # 149
From the ends of the earth to the Central Valley:
My name is Nelson Venegas Allende, my wife’s name is Flor Maria Quiroga and we come from Santiago de Chile, South America. We have two children, Maria Celeste, and Alejandro, and also three grandchildren, Ayelén, Santiago, and Amalia. We have been married for 35 years and 5 years of engagement.
We never imagined that my wife's mission trip to the United States would change our lives in such a drastic and profound way. Seeing the reality of the Hispanic people and the church in particular, an irrepressible desire to come to work to change it was born within her, through the word of God and integration based on education and participation in the community. What we have experienced since then would serve to fill the pages of a couple of books, including the first phase working with the coverage of an African American church, in the city of Fresno. For a little over a year now we are working in the city of Orosi, CA, building a Hispanic church called “Olivo Silvestre" with the valuable contribution of MGF, Pastor Jay and his entire team. We have two important projects: to promote one of our founding members of our church to a municipal government position and to install a project in conjunction with the Mexican Consulate called “Plaza Community" to alphabetize (teach to read and write) the Hispanic people in general.
